Process-aware information systems (PAIS), or ”process systems” for short, are a special class of software systems. Unlike general-purpose software systems, PAIS maintain an explicit understanding of organizational processes – often expressed through process models in languages such as BPMN, OC-DFG or Declare. PAIS facilitate achieving business goals and KPIs by carrying out process activities in the correct sequence, by the right roles and agents, and according to established rules and constraints.
