Paratexts – book covers, prefaces, movie trailers and advertisements, music videos and album artwork – have often been neglected by scholars because they do not belong to the literary work or cultural artefact “proper.” But that is precisely why we should pay attention to them: much more than simple marketing tools, they offer readers, viewers, and consumers historically and culturally contingent “frames and filters” (Gray) for the interpretation of specific artworks and cultural products. This seminar offers you an introduction to the theories of para- and intertextuality before we move on to analyzing concrete examples from literature and theme parks. In the last part of the seminar, students will get a chance to develop their own research project, based on material of their choice.

This course will allow you to work on your Information Literacy, Reading, Inquiry & Analysis, and Written Communication competences.

Das Seminar soll Studierende darauf vorbereiten, medienpädagogische Konzepte, in Anlehnung an den Lehrplan des Landes NRW und den Medienkompetenzrahmen NRW, in den eigenen Unterricht einbinden zu können. Zu diesem Zweck beschäftigt sich die Veranstaltung nach einer kurzen Einführung in die Medienpädagogik mit grundlegenden Konzepten wie Medienkompetenz, Mediendidaktik und Medienbildung im schulischen Kontext. Zudem werden die curriculare Integration von Medienpädagogik sowie Risiken und Chancen von Medien und rechtliche Aspekten thematisiert. Als Teil der Prüfungsleistung entwickeln die Studierenden ein eigenes medienpädagogisches Projekt für den Schulunterricht und stellen dieses im Plenum vor. Die Prüfungsleistung wird dadurch abgerundet, dass die Studierenden ihre Projekte auf 4-5 Seiten verschriftlichen.
